Sinus Pain, Infections: Are You Ready For Relief?

Sinusitis, simply stated, is an inflammation of the nasal sinuses. Adverse effects may be experienced in the nose, eyes, and middle ear. Symptoms may present themselves as: fever, persistent cough, fatigue, post-nasal drip, congestion, and a thick, colored nasal drainage. One might also experience headaches, jaw pain, earaches, toothaches, loss of taste and smell, and swelling of the eyelids. Recent studies suggest that nasal polyps (or what appear to be nasal polyps) may be directly related to the presence of infection in the sinus cavity.

Sinusitis is generally described as a secondary response to colds, allergies, and asthma conditions. Structural or anatomical concerns may also predispose an individual to sinus infections. Acute sinusitis is caused by a bacterial infection and may occur as a result of the common cold or respiratory infection. Chronic sinusitis is also caused by a bacterial infection but is associated with an inflammatory disorder similar to asthma. Allergies and structural concerns may inhibit drainage of the nasal passages, increasing the opportunity for a secondary infection.

It is important for sinusitis to be identified and treated in a prompt manner by a physician. Acute and chronic sinusitis is usually treated with antibiotics. One may typically receive a ten-day or two week prescription for oral antibiotics, but this may only partially 'cure' the chronic infection. Symptoms can persist and the infection emerges again in the near future. It may be common for patients to take oral antibiotics for many weeks in order to resolve a severe infection.

Still, not all antibiotics may penetrate well into the bony structure of the sinuses. SinuCare and our network of physicians are leading the way in treating chronic sinusitis when oral antibiotics have proven ineffective. The opportunity for long-term relief exists. Consider the following patient comments:

'I've tried every product any pharmaceutical company had on the market. Within one week [of the treatment], I started feeling better and under control. My sinuses feel better than they have in years. We had a lot of rain in Central Florida this past week. Normally I'd be almost bedridden from headaches, but I haven't had to take an aspirin. I feel I've accomplished a lot.'

'My sinuses were so bad that I was at the point that I was so winded but now I'm not as winded. My endurance of doing this is much better. I have more energy. Breathing is easier. If you ask my husband, he'll tell you that we have spent a small fortune in over-the-counter sinus treatment. But now, I don't have to do that. When you combat sinus problems, for as many years as I did, you're thrilled to find relief. You bet I would recommend it.'
